It all started when I was seven years old. I would set up the family video camera, sit in front of our ironing board, and report the neighborhood news. Since then, my interest in broadcast journalism has only grown. I have made several career moves, held numerous internships, and participated in endless extracurricular and classroom experiences which have enhanced my skills in the field. Having an imagination at seven sparked my career path and dream of wanting to be a truth-seeking journalist.
In high school, I anchored our morning newscast and became involved with KYW Newsradio Newstudio program where I received the Outstanding Achievement award for a story on females involved in male dominant sports.
After graduation, I arrived a Penn State, becoming with PSN-Tv, the student-run television station. I spent time hosting Penn State's premier game show, What's That Fact, and worked as a reporter, anchor, and host for the student-run radio station, ComRadio. I began picking up internships my sophomore year of college. |
I spent time with the Penn State football marketing department serving as a student ambassador, helping fans get excited for each home game, knowing information about kick-off times, and being involved with pregame and halftime activities.
During the summer, I had the opportunity to be the morning show intern at a Princeton-based radio station, 94.5 PST. There, I found the daily horoscopes, promoted station events and interacted with listeners on a daily basis. Working at the station was an amazing opportunity and from there, my interest only grew in the field in general.

Instead of returning to school that fall, I went to New York City where I was an intern at ABC News, working on both 20/20 and Primetime: What Would You Do?. I got to see the ins and outs of what it takes to put on major magazine style shows as well as work with some of the best in the industry including Barbara Walters, Elizabeth Vargas and John Quinones. While there, I learned how to edit using Avid; I even created sub-clips featured on a 20/20 episode. I also worked behind the scenes on What Would You Do? - seeing the endless hours it takes to make a reality show, getting releases signed by patrons and scouting future shoot locations.
I went on to intern at WTAJ-TV in Altoona, PA, tagging along with multimedia journalist to get a better understanding of the field and position. I wrote VOSOTs and VOs for the nightly newscasts. |
I added to my experience by serving as a production assistant and intern at WPVI in Philadelphia during summer 2012. I joined the FYI Philly team where I interviewed subjects and created promos for the show. I also ran the Twitter account for the show and during the 4th of July Wawa Welcome America concert, I live tweeted from the 6abc Twitter handle, helping me understand the importance of a social media presence.
As I finished my last semester at Penn State, I had the opportunity to work on the Centre County Report as a reporter, anchor and social media producer. While working there, I covered events such as the Sandusky scandal where I live tweeted the sentencing of the the former coach, the Penn State Board of Trustees meetings including an emergency meeting, and other events around the community. I pitched weekly story ideas then shot and edited packages, VOSOTs and VOs. I also filmed sporting events including Penn State football games and practices and wrestling matches. While a part of the Centre County Report, we won an Emmy for Best College Newscast and awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and Broadcast Education Association. The Centre County Report sits within DMV 101 and airs in 29 counties across Pennsylvania.
My career started in Wausau, Wisconsin (DMV 134) in March 2013 where I worked as the morning reporter and producer for Sunrise 7. I also served as a fill-in anchor for Sunrise 7 Sunday. A story I worked on exposed the SPASH school district's use of e-books and the correlation to drop-out rates and failing grades. Due to the story, an internet provider worked with students and their families, helping them get better internet serve in their rural community.
After a year in Wausau, I made the move back to WTAJ in the Altoona-Johnstown-State College market (DMV 101) working as a State College bureau multimedia journalist, covering the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity investigation, including an exclusive story with sorority women who've had naked images posted to social media sites by fraternity men, the Penn State riots following the NCAA lifting sanctions for the football team, as well as an incident where a bomb was found in a car, and followed a federal case involving an elected official charged with several sex crimes including child molestation.
I made the move to Buffalo, NY in June 2015 where I assisted with WIVB launching an hour-long newscast during a new time slot. I've covered stories ranging from weather and sports to gang violence and education. Our assignment manager has dubbed me the Canadian bureau reporter as I travel over the border monthly to work on stories in Toronto and Southern Ontario. Stories I have worked on have received national coverage including including a massive warehouse fire, presidential candidates visiting the region, Syrian refugees arriving to Canada and, of course, snow and the Buffalo Bills.
No matter the opportunity or experience, I learned many new things and honed in on the techniques I already knew. Every step along the way of my career thus far has made me fall more in love with the news industry and I look forward to a prosperous future as a truth-seeking journalist. I continue to believe every person has a story to tell, but not an outlet to tell it and I work to provide that outlet to share so many untold stories.
